Title: The Little Door
Characters: OMC's and OFC's (Adam, Austin, Megan, Shawna and others)
Summary: When they left their college town for Spring Break 2006, they never thought it would end up the way it did.
Disclaimer: I own all these characters since I made them up in my mind. Nothing's really been checked except for me reading it through a few times. And I also claim to know nothing about the time period this is set in, I might make up random things that make no sense or whatever.

When they left their college town for Spring Break 2009, they never thought it would end up the way it did.
Megan, Shawna, Austin, and Adam decided they wanted to take a road trip for their Spring Break vacation. They packed up the car and headed out of town as soon as everyone was done with their last class. They had no set plan on where they would go or stay but they knew they would have a great time.

Ch. 1

The four friends had been on the road for about two hours when Megan made an exclamation.

“I have to go to the bathroom! We need to stop!”

“Where do you suppose we stop? We’re in the middle of nowhere right now Meg,” Austin, who was driving, responded.

“I don’t know, but we need to find somewhere to stop, I gotta go!”

“I told you not to drink that whole pop,” Shawna said.

“I know, I know. I should’ve listened.”

“Look, there’s a sign saying there’s a bed and breakfast in 10 miles. We could stay there and Megan can go to the bathroom,” Adam said.

“Sounds good to me. Can you wait Megan?” Austin asked.

“Yes, let’s get there fast.”

So our foursome took the exit to the bed and breakfast. Once they arrived they realized it looked a little different than the billboard.

“Guys, I don’t have to go anymore,” Megan said.

“Yeah, I don’t think they’re open anyways,” Shawna said.

“Oh, c’mon girls. So it needs a new paint job and a few other things. But it’ll be a fun adventure,” Austin said.

“Adam, I am not staying here,” Megan said to her boyfriend.

“Fine, we’ll find somewhere else to stay. But do you wanna see if you can use a bathroom here?” Adam asked.

“No, I’m good. I can hold it.”

“You couldn’t hold it fifteen minutes ago,” Austin said.

“Shut up Austin. This place looks creepy. Can we just find a gas station or something?”

“Yeah, alright,” Austin said as he put the car back in drive and they headed towards the small town.

They finally found a gas station and pulled in. Megan and Shawna went in to use the bathroom while the boys refilled the gas tank and got everyone some snacks for the trip.

They decided they would drive to the next decent size town they could find with a nice hotel and stay there for the night. They drove for another two hours before they found a place they wanted to stay for the night. They checked into a room for the night and decided they wanted to go to the pool and hot tub for a little bit.

After they came back from swimming they each showered and changed for bed. Megan noticed they had a closet in their room with a door and she thought that was odd for a hotel and decided to check it out. She opened it up and noticed a smaller door at the back of the closet.

“Hey guys, the closet has a little door inside it.”

“Cool, open it up,” Austin said as he walked over to Megan.

“No, what if there’s a spider or a rat or something in there?”

“Ugh, girls,” Austin said.

“Austin shut up!” Megan said.

“Guys, don’t fight, this is only the first night,” Shawna said.

“Well, he keeps starting it,” Megan said.

“Just ignore him,” Shawna said.

“Hey! I don’t want to be ignored,” Austin said.

“Hey! How about everyone stops arguing and we open the door?” Adam said.

“Alright, alright. I’ll open the door,” Austin said.

Austin crouched down and opened the door. It was dark inside so he asked Adam to hand him the flashlight they had packed. Adam handed it to him and he pointed the beam inside the doorway.

“What do you see?” Megan asked.

“Nothing, it’s just a dark corridor,” he said.

“Let’s see what’s in there,” Shawna said.

“But it’s dark,” Megan said.

“Austin will lead the way with the flashlight and we’ll follow and once he finds something we’ll be able to see it,” Shawna said.

“Alright, but Adam is right behind me,” Megan said.

“Ok,” Shawna said.

So Austin started to crawl in with Shawna behind him followed by Megan and finally Adam. The four crawled for about ten feet before Austin felt the floor slope down at a 45-degree angle.

“Guys maybe we should go back. I don’t think this is safe,” Austin said.

“Alright, let’s turn around,” Adam said as they all turned around.

“Austin, don’t stare at my butt,” Shawna said as they crawled.

“What do you want me to look at? Your butt is right in front of my face,” Austin responded.

“Whatever,” Shawna said.

“Uh, guys, the door is shut,” Adam said once they had crawled back.

“So?” Megan said.

“I didn’t shut it though,” Adam said.

“Maybe it shut on it’s own or something,” Austin said.

“Yeah, I guess,” Adam said going to push the door open. “Um, it won’t open.”

“Is there a handle?” Shawna asked.

“No,” Adam said.

“Um, now what?” Megan asked.

“Anyone have their cell phone on them?” Shawna asked.

“Yeah,” Megan said.

“Well, use it to call help.”

“Ok,” Megan said as she pulled her phone from her pocket. “No service. Again, now what?”

“I guess we turn back around and see where we end up,” Austin said.

“Alright, here we go again,” Adam said as they turned around and headed through the corridor again.

They reached the slope of the corridor again and switched their positions so they could sit and slide down the tunnel. They were sliding down for about twenty feet Austin could see a light coming from an opening. They ended up in a small room that looked like it belonged in a castle.

“Guys where are we?” Shawna asked.

“I have no idea,” Austin said.

“Maybe we should go back up the tunnel,” Megan said.

“Um, it’s gone,” Adam said as he turned around.

“What!” Shawna exclaimed.

“The hole we came out of is gone,” Adam said as they all turned around and looked.

“Maybe we should’ve stayed at that creepy bed and breakfast,” Megan said.

Ch. 2

“So, now what do we do?” Shawna asked.

“I think we should look around and see if we can figure out where we are. I don’t know why the hotel would have a room like this but I’m sure we can find our way out,” Austin said.

“Tunnels don’t just disappear. I don’t think we’re in the hotel anymore,” Megan said.

“Yeah, but what do you think happened? We traveled through time or something?” Austin asked.

“I don’t know Austin. But something happened. Why don’t you go check outside the door?” Megan said.

“Why me? You do it.”

“No, you do it.”

“No you-“

“I’ll do it,” Adam said cutting off the two of them. “Nothing would ever get accomplished if I left you two alone.”

Adam went and opened the door slowly in case there was someone outside the room. The hallway outside looked the same as the room. It looked just like every castle hallway you’d ever seen in movies.

“Are we in a castle?” Shawna asked.

“I have no idea. It’s looks pretty realistic though,” Adam said.

“Should we keep going and find a way out?” Megan asked.

“Duh Meg. What else did you think we were going to do once we left the room? Go back in and wait for the tunnel to appear again?” Austin said.

“Shut up Austin. Why did I agree to go on a trip with you? You annoy the hell out of me.”

“Feelings mutual babe.”

“Don’t call me babe!”

“Shut up the two of you! Spring Break just barely started and you’ve been fighting almost the entire time,” Adam said. “If Megan wasn’t my girlfriend I’d think all your fighting was the buildup to a relationship or something.”

This shocked both of them enough that they got very quiet. A few seconds later they heard someone walking down the intersecting hallway.

“Quick! Get back in the room and be quiet!” Adam said.

They all went back into the room and Adam peered out the door hopefully unseen by the coming person. The person finally came into sight and Adam saw it was a man and he looked like a castle guard. He was dressed in his armor and had a sword on his hip. He kept going on his way, not turning down the hallway the four were in.

“Guys, I have no idea where we are but we’re definitely not in the 21st Century anymore,” Adam said.

“Maybe it’s a themed hotel or something,” Austin said.

“Then why are we in a completely empty room. Most hotels don’t have empty rooms just hanging out,” Shawna said.

“I don’t know but what, was the tunnel a time portal or something?” Austin asked.

“I don’t know, but I think we should look around a little more before we completely decide what happened to us,” Megan said.

“Ok, but be quiet. We don’t want to draw attention to ourselves just yet,” Adam said.

They all nodded their heads and followed him out of the room. They got to where the hallway turned either left or right and a decision needed to be made on where they went.

“I think we should split up. Two go left and two go right,” Adam said.

“What?! We can’t split up! We don’t know where we are!” Megan said.

“And our cell phones don’t work so we can’t call the other two,” Shawna said.

“It’ll be fine as long as we don’t wander too far and can find the way back to the room we started in,” Adam said.

“I think he’s right. We’ll get more ground covered that way. We can meet back in like a half hour or so,” Austin said.

“Fine, whatever. I just don’t want to get separated from everyone in a freaky old castle,” Megan said.

“Don’t worry, everything will be fine,” Adam said. “Megan, you and Austin go left and Shawna and I will go right.”

“What!” Austin and Megan said at the same time.

“Why do I have to go with him?” Megan asked.

“Because I’m kinda hoping it will make the two of you work together and stop fighting for a little bit since you have to be quiet,” Adam said. “Plus Austin knows I will kick his butt if anything happens to Megan along the way.”

“Fine, as long as she’s quiet,” Austin said.

“As long as he’s quiet everything will be fine,” Megan said.

“Ok, so we’ll meet up again in like half an hour and see what we’ve found. And then we’ll go from there,” Adam said.

“Alright,” everyone said as they departed ways from each other.

Ch. 3

“Ugh, Austin you’re such a jerk. Why do you always have to push my buttons like that?” Megan asked.

“Because you love it,” Austin said as he leaned in and kissed Megan.

“Stop it. I thought we agreed that we weren’t going to do this anymore,” Megan said.

“I know that’s what we said. But when I get you all riled up like that I can’t help myself.”

“Austin, it has to stop. Adam’s my boyfriend and you’re his best friend. We can’t do this to him anymore, even if he doesn’t know about this.”

“I know, ugh. Let’s just start looking around before anyone sees us, since you’ve pretty much shot down my other idea.”

“What other idea?”

“We make out for a while before we look around.”

“We can’t Austin. What if Adam and Shawna come this way or something? Or someone comes along and throws us in the dungeon because we can’t hide because we’re making out and don’t hear them coming?”

“Alright, alright. Calm down. Let’s go,” Austin said and then kissed Megan once more before he headed down the hallway.

“Jerk,” Megan muttered under her breath before following Austin.

The two walked down the hall for a while before they came to a set of stairs leading upwards. They followed the stairs before they came to another hallway. They were about halfway down the hall when a door opened and a girl about their age came out and saw them. Austin, Megan and the girl all froze.

“Who are you? And what are you wearing?” asked the girl.

“Um, we’re um,” Austin stuttered out.

“How did you get into the castle? And why are you wandering around? My father certainly won’t like this,” she said as she started heading in the other direction.

“Wait, please. I’m Austin and this is Megan. Who are you?”

“I’m Elizabeth and this is my home. What are you doing here?”

“Um, honestly we don’t know,” Austin said.

“Um, what is this word you keep using. I don’t know what it means,” Elizabeth said.

“I don’t know. It’s just something you say when you don’t know what to say, I guess,” Austin said.

“Well, that’s strange. But what do you mean you don’t know why you’re here?”

“We, can we talk in your room or something? Being out here kinda makes me nervous,” Austin said.

“Yes, follow me,” Elizabeth said leading the two into the room she just came out of.

“Wow, your room is beautiful,” Megan said.

“Thank you very much. Now please explain yourselves.”

“Can I ask what year it is and where we are first?” Austin asked.

“Yes, it’s 1393 and we’re in England,” Elizabeth answered wondering why it mattered and why they didn’t know

“Oh my, oh, oh, Austin! How in the world did we end up here?” Megan asked.

“I, I, I have no idea. This is so not cool. No, no, no.”

“What’s wrong?” Elizabeth asked.

“It’s 2009 where we come from and we live in California,” Austin said.

“California? Where is that?”

“In America,” Austin said.

“Austin, you dummy. There is no America yet. She has no idea what you’re talking about,” Megan said.

“Oh, right.”

“How did you get here?” Elizabeth asked.

“We were on vacation. We stopped at a hotel and then there was this door in the closet and we went through it. We followed a tunnel and ended up in a room downstairs and the tunnel we went through had disappeared. Then we separated from our two friends and then met up with you. And here we are,” Austin said.

“I’m confused. There are no tunnels into our castle. And why are you not wearing a dress my dear?”

“Women don’t have to wear dresses where we come from. And the tunnel is gone,” Megan said.

“This is all very strange. But I can help you out if you want,” Elizabeth said. “It would have to be very hush, hush. My father can’t know about this.”

“That would be great,” Austin said before looking at his watch. “Shoot, we have to go meet our friends again. Will you come with us?”

“Yes, of course. Let’s go. I’ll make sure the coast is clear for you,” Elizabeth said.

“Thank you so much,” Austin said.

The two followed Elizabeth through the hallway and back downstairs to meet up with their friends.

“I hope they’re ok,” Megan said.

“Me too.”

Ch. 4

“Seriously Adam why did you send Megan and Austin together? They’re just going to fight the whole time they’re walking around.”

“I just wanted to see if they could actually be quiet around each other and not argue like 5-year-olds. I know deep down they can get along with each other.”

“Ok, whatever. But it’s your fault if we have to break them out of the dungeon when they get caught arguing.”

“Alright, I’ll take the blame. But they’ll work it out.”

Adam and Shawna walked the hallway looking for any clues they could find that would help tell them where they were. The hallway turned a couple of times and had many rooms with closed doors. They didn’t open any of them because they were afraid of what or whom they would find behind them.

After about ten minutes they came upon a dead end with a final closed door. But this door was different, it had a circular window towards the top of it.

“Do you think it goes outside?” Shawna asked before they looked through the window.

“I don’t know. I’ll look,” Adam said before leaned against the door and looked through the window. “I think it’s a kitchen, but I’m not sure.”

“What do you mean, you’re not sure?”

“Well, it’s hard to tell with all the old fashioned stuff in there. It’s not like there’s a microwave or refrigerator in there.”

“Ok, well is there anybody in there?”

“I don’t see anyone. Let’s go in,” Adam said.

Quietly the two walked through the door and into the kitchen. It was unlike any kitchen either of them had ever been in. There were no modern conveniences at all. There was a coal stove and some other things. (AN: I don’t know what else is in a kitchen in 1393, I'll research later).

“Wow, this is so weird. What year do you think we’re in? There’s like nothing here,” Shawna said.

“I don’t know. But we should probably keep moving. The kitchen is probably a busy place. Someone could come in at any moment.”

“Alright, should we go back where we came from or go out a different door?”

“I don’t know. If we go out the other door we might not be able to get back in the kitchen later to meet up with Austin and Megan again.”

“Exactly. I think maybe we should head back where we came from. We can come back this way later with the others,” Shawna said.

“Yeah, we should probably head back anyways. Austin and Megan are probably back already and are trying not to kill each other before we get back.”

“Yeah, I’m still not sure why they both agreed to come on this trip.”

“Megan’s my girlfriend and Austin’s my best friend. They both want to make me happy so they both agreed,” Adam smiled as they headed back to the room they appeared in.

“Then they both must love you a lot. Austin’s driving me nuts and he’s one of my best friends. I’m about ready to kick him out of the group.”

“Can’t do that. We’re in the past now. Can’t leave a man behind.”

“Dang it. Guess you’re right,” Shawna said as they got back to the room. “They’re not here yet. That’s surprising.”

“I’m sure they’ll be here soon.”

Ch. 5

A couple minutes later the door opened again and Austin, Megan and their new friend walked in the door.

“Uh, guys, why do you have another person with you? You were supposed to stay out of sight,” Adam said.

“Yeah, well, we tried. But it didn’t work out so well. This is Elizabeth. She lives here,” Austin said.

“Ok, so, now what? Wait, what year is it?” Adam asked.

“1393 and we’re in England,” Megan said.

“Oh, ok,” Adam said.

“Elizabeth said she would help us out. Oh yeah, Elizabeth, this is my best friend Shawna and my boyfriend Adam.”

“Hello, it’s very nice to meet you. And boyfriend? What does that mean exactly? Is Austin also your boyfriend? He is a boy too,” Elizabeth said.

“No, no, no. Austin is just my friend. Adam’s the guy I’m dating, I love him.”

“Oh, I get it. He is who you will marry.”

“We’re not getting married,” Adam cut in.

“Well, not right now but maybe someday, if that’s what we decide,” Megan said as she looked at Adam and then subtly glanced at Austin who was staring right at her.

“I don’t understand. You get to choose whom you marry? Both of you? Your families did not decide for you?”

“Haha, no. We met in college and liked each other and started dating,” Megan said.

“You all live in a strange world. But I will help you get back there if you wish to return. I’m not sure how to help but I can help keep you out of sight of my father and others here at the castle,” Elizabeth said.

“Thanks, that would be great. I’m already starting to miss things back home. I feel so disconnected with no cell phone or Internet,” Shawna said.

“TV, I miss TV,” Austin said.

“Yeah,” Adam and Megan agreed while Elizabeth looked on with a confused face.

“Don’t worry about what we’re talking about. They’re just new, modern inventions from our time,” Austin said.

“Ok. But I feel like you’re speaking a foreign language,” Elizabeth said.

“Can I call you Lizzie or something? Elizabeth just feels so formal,” Austin asked.

“Um, why?”

“It’s just a shortened version of your name. Plus it’s sounds friendlier.”

“I guess so. My sister sometimes calls me Beth or Liza. You could use one of those too if you like.”

“Nah, I like Lizzie,” Austin said.

“Quit hitting on her,” Adam said.

“Hitting on me?” Lizzie asked.

“Flirting with you?” Adam tried but she still looked confused.

“Being charming?” Megan tried and a look of recognition passed across Lizzie’s face.

“Oh, I understand now. But it’s alright. Most men who are charming to me or ‘hitting on me’ as you say, just want to marry me to get into my family and get my family’s wealth,” Lizzie said.

“Oh, well. That’s not what I’m trying to do. I just naturally flirt with all women. I can’t help it sometimes. I don’t know I do it all the time.”

“Shut up Austin. You know you do it. It’s your favorite hobby,” Megan said.

“Ha, you’re just jealous ‘cuz I never flirt with you,” Austin said as he walked over to Megan and put his arm around her shoulders.

“Yeah right. I’m happy you don’t flirt with me. Instead I just get to laugh at all your pathetic attempts at getting a girlfriend,” Megan said as she pushed Austin’s arm off of her.

“Guys, stop it. We need to work on a plan to get out of here,” Adam said tired of the fighting.

“Whatever, she started it.”

“Shut up, I did not,” Megan said.

“Yeah, you did. If you’d quit telling me to shut up all the time everything would be fine.”

“I don’t care who started it. Can you two just try to go an hour without fighting? That’s all I’m asking for right now, please,” Adam said.

“Fine, I can do it if he’ll stop saying stupid things,” Megan said.

“I don’t say stupid things. But I’ll try not to annoy her for an hour,” Austin said as he rolled his eyes at the whole situation.

“Is this the room you entered into the castle from?” Lizzie asked.

“Yeah, but there was a tunnel we came out of in that wall over there,” Shawna said as she pointed to the back wall of the room.

“This is all very strange. There is another room on the other side of that wall. There’s no way a tunnel could be there.”

“And the fact that we’re from 2009,” Austin said.

“Yes, that too,” Lizzie said.

“Maybe we were sent here for a reason,” Shawna guessed.

“Yeah, I doubt that’s it. What could we possibly have been sent here for?” Austin said.

“Austin, don’t shoot down her idea. Do you have any better ideas oh smart one?” Megan said.

“Guys, don’t start it again. We need to work on a plan,” Adam said.

“Fine,” Austin and Megan agreed.

“We need to get the four of you something else to wear. You’ll definitely stand out if anyone else happens to see you,” Lizzie said.

“Yeah, that’s probably a smart idea,” Adam said.

“Ok, you all should stay here while I go find some clothes. Megan and Shawna can probably wear some of my clothes but it might be a little harder to find you boys something to wear. I’m sure I can find something but it might take a while. I’ll be back, just stay in here and be quiet. You never know who might be running around the castle,” Lizzie said as she left the room in search of clothing for the group.

“So what did you guys find in your direction?” Megan asked.

“We think we found the kitchen, but it was hard to tell,” Shawna said.

“Yeah, it looked quite different from what we’re used to back home,” Adam said.

“Yeah, I bet,” Megan said.

“The only thing we found was Lizzie. We didn’t get far before she came out of her room and saw us. I’m just
glad we ran into her and not some scary guard or something,” Austin said.

“Yeah, that’s a good thing. Now I guess we just have to wait for Lizzie to come back,” Adam said.
